An invitation from our friends at Titans of the Midwest:
Join us for KinkedIn, where we connect the past and present in the worlds of bdsm, kink, fetish and Leather in a way that helps you to understand where we’ve come from and think about where we’re going. Titans of the Midwest, in partnership with the Leather Archives and Museum host conversations using the resources of the Archives featuring the amazing educators of our pervy little world. Join us in person for dinner and discussion, or catch the online review on our YouTube channel. The event is free and welcoming to all, and donations are encouraged. All proceeds go to the continuing work of the Leather Archives and Museum, as well as the educator fund for Titans of the Midwest to support richer education in all zip codes.
Our September topic is How Your Leather Speaks, presented by Ian Gray.
Description: Please join us for a unique examination of the signs, symbols, and aesthetics of the Leather gear and clothing we all know, love and wear. Our hope is to discuss and understand the origins of these items’ meanings and to challenge their relationship to Rightest and Totalitarian ideologies. We’ll be examining a selection of real historic garments from the Leather Archives and Museum and having a vigorous debate about whether we control the meaning of the gear we wear or whether that meaning influences us.
Bio: Ian Gray is an economic sociologist and product ethnographer who does research at Harvard Business School. His interests focus on the semiotics of consumer goods and cultural markets, understanding structural hierarchies, and using Queer and performance theory to examine how businesses engage identity creation.
